Cancun scuba dive sites include shallow coral reefs, deeper offshore reefs, the MUSA Underwater Museum and the C-58 wreck. Shallow Cancun Dive Sites
MUSA — Located in the waters between Cancun and Isla Mujeres, MUSA combines scuba diving with an underwater collection of sculptures that have developed into an artificial reef habitat. Typical depths are approximately 25–35 feet.Manchones — A shallow coral reef near Isla Mujeres with tropical fish and coral formations. With typical depths of approximately 25–35 feet, Manchones is one of the shallower dive sites we visit.
Bandera — A shallow Cancun-area coral reef with tropical marine life and reef formations. Typical depths are approximately 30–40 feet.
Cuevones — A coral reef site with varied underwater structure and habitat for Caribbean reef fish. Typical depths are approximately 30–40 feet.
Santo Remedio — A shallow reef in the Cancun diving area near Chitales, with coral formations and tropical marine life. Typical depths are approximately 25–35 feet.
Chitales — One of the shallow Cancun scuba dive sites we visit, with coral formations and Caribbean reef fish. Typical depths are approximately 25–30 feet.
Deeper Cancun Reef Dive Sites
For certified divers, Cancun also offers deeper offshore reef diving. Cancun Wreck Diving: C-58
Wreck C-58 — The C-58 is one of Cancun's deeper scuba diving sites, resting at approximately 85–90 feet. The wreck has become an artificial reef and provides a very different dive from Cancun's natural coral reefs and shallow MUSA sites.
Cozumel Dive Sites from Cancun
Cozumel offers a very different diving experience from the reefs of Cancun. Known for clear Caribbean water, drift diving, large coral formations and dramatic reef structure, Cozumel can be visited as a diving day trip from Cancun.The Cozumel dive sites we visit vary depending on conditions and the dive schedule. Common sites include:
Palancar Reef — One of Cozumel's best-known reef systems, Palancar features large coral formations, channels, swim-throughs and the wall diving for which Cozumel is famous.
Columbia Reef — A Cozumel reef known for large coral formations, deeper sections and clear-water drift diving along the reef.
Santa Rosa Wall — A classic Cozumel wall dive with steep drop-offs, coral formations and swim-throughs. It is generally suited to certified divers comfortable with deeper drift diving.
Paradise Reef — A shallower Cozumel reef with coral formations and abundant tropical marine life, offering a different profile from the island's deeper walls.

Cenote diving offers a completely different experience from the coral reefs and open-water diving of Cancun and Cozumel. Located in the Riviera Maya, these freshwater cavern systems are known for clear water, limestone formations, natural light effects and underwater passages.Our cenote diving trips from Cancun visit several established dive sites, with the specific cenotes selected according to diver experience, conditions and the day's schedule:
Kukulcan — A freshwater cenote dive featuring clear water, limestone formations and areas where natural sunlight enters the cavern.
Chac Mool — One of the well-known cenote diving areas of the Riviera Maya, offering cavern passages, limestone formations and dramatic natural-light effects.
Chikin-Ha — A cenote system with clear freshwater, cavern formations and changing light conditions throughout the dive.
Ponderosa — Also known as Jardín del Edén, Ponderosa features clear freshwater, an open cenote area and cavern diving through natural limestone formations.
Tajma Ha — A cenote dive known for cavern passages, limestone formations and striking light effects when sunlight enters the system.
Cenote diving is for certified divers and differs considerably from ocean reef diving. Equipment, procedures and the dive environment are explained before entering the water, and cenote dives are conducted within the established cavern-diving routes appropriate for recreational divers.
