If you are starting from the beginning, the PADI Open Water Diver course provides the training needed to become a certified scuba diver. The course combines knowledge development, confined-water skills and four open-water training dives.
If you have already completed part of your training before arriving in Cancun, the Open Water Referral option allows you to complete your required open-water dives here instead.
Choosing the Right Scuba Certification
There are several ways to complete your beginner scuba certification depending on how much training you have already completed and how much time you have available in Cancun.PADI Open Water Diver is the complete entry-level certification and the option I would emphasize most heavily on this page.
PADI Scuba Diver is a shorter certification course for people with limited time. It includes part of the Open Water Diver curriculum and requires diving under the supervision of a PADI professional after certification. That distinction is also reflected in current Cancun course descriptions.
Open Water Referral is for divers who complete the academic and confined-water portions of their certification before traveling and want to finish their open-water training dives in Cancun.
PADI Open Water Certification
The Course: Complete your PADI Open Water certification in Cancun. The course includes the academic portion, confined-water skills training and four required open-water training dives.-

PADI Open Water E Learning Course
The Course: PADI offers an E Learning option for getting certified. You can do all of your academics and theory before you arrive to Cancun. While this allows you to get this part out of the way before you arrive due to our streamlined course here in Cancun it does not save a great deal of time as we still need to review some things with you and need you at the shop when the pool training begins. Give us a call to discuss how this works.Please Note: E Learning marterials and course is purchased directly through PADI and not included in course cost with us.

PADI Open Water Referral — 4 Dives
The Course: For students who have already completed their academic work and confined-water training with a dive center at home and need to complete their four required open-water certification dives.-
Included: Four open-water training dives completed over two days, instructor evaluations, required training sign-offs and scuba equipment except wetsuits.

Frequently Asked Questions About Scuba Certifications in Cancun
Each specialty includes professional PADI instruction, the required training dives, tanks and weights. Course requirements and the number of dives vary depending on the specialty you choose.
Yes. Many PADI Specialty Courses can be completed during your Cancun vacation. The time required depends on the specialty, with some requiring only a few training dives.
Prerequisites vary by specialty. Most require at least a PADI Open Water Diver certification or equivalent, while some specialties have additional certification or age requirements.
In many cases, the first dive of a qualifying PADI Specialty Diver course may count toward the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification, and an Adventure Dive may also credit toward the corresponding specialty.
Tanks and weights are included. Additional scuba equipment may be available to rent if you do not have your own gear.
